DRG Architects embarked on a project with Ocean County College to design an addition to the lobby of the Grunin Arts Center. Currently under construction, this addition will unify the space and create a welcoming gateway at the northern campus entrance. A highly visible and transparent curtain wall wraps the addition and counterbalances the solid nature of the new construction. The massing of the addition compliments the original Grunin Center’s upper horizontal building block and blends with the architectural elements of the original building. The addition is level with the sidewalk and drop-off and will provide a seamless transition to the building entrance avoiding ramps or steps. The interior space, which will primarily serve as a pre-function space for the Grunin Theater, is designed to be neutral in nature so it can serve any type of gathering or activity. Designs include a grand stair and an elevator for accessibility, toilets that meet code requirements for assembly spaces, and storage.
