Emergency Generator The mission of the Middlesex County Board of Social Services is to administer Federal and State public assistance programs in a competent, compassionate and efficient manner. Thousands of participants who receive these benefits are serviced by the MCBSS every week. Due to the results of Hurricane Sandy and technical nature in which benefits are distributed, the MCBSS needed a way to establish uninterruptable platform so that services could continue in the event of an emergency. DRG was asked to design and implement an emergency generator(s) system to cope with such events. The system incorporates 2 250 KVA generators complete with transfer switches to the main electrical service. The emergency circuitry powers the entire 86,000 sq. ft. facility. DRG worked very close with the contractor to ensure minimal interruption during changeover of the main electrical services. Facade, Windows, and Toilets DRG Architects was asked to design and complete renovations to eight (8) toilet rooms. In addition to all new water-conserving fixtures, our team created new finish plans for floor tile, wall tile, counter tops, partitions, paint, and ceilings. We also investigated the cause of water infiltration in the building. The results led to a contract for complete replacement of the masonry façade and all windows. We modified the window framing system to further protect the envelope from unwanted water infiltration. The design of the new façade system provides the building with additional insulation which helps save on energy costs. We also prepared design to remove and repair failing envelope systems and made building structure improvements. Lobby Renovation DRG Architects renovated the client lobby of the building, which consisted of new wall coverings, finishings, new ceiling lights, installation of bulletin boards, storage casework, and elevator replacements.
