Duke Farms, a historic 2,700‑acre estate in Hillsborough, NJ originally developed by James Buchanan Duke and later stewarded by Doris Duke, is undergoing a transformative historic preservation and green adaptive reuse initiative led by Vitetta, a DRG Company, in partnership with the Duke Farms and Doris Duke Foundation. Building on a 2007 master plan, the project revitalizes key structures with LEED‑certified upgrades: the Farm Barn is revitalized as an Orientation Center and offices featuring sustainable systems like geothermal energy and rainwater capture; the 1899 Lord & Burnham Conservatory is reimagined as an indoor orchid display garden. This initiative honors the site's storied past while advancing environmental stewardship and public engagement, earning accolades such as the 2013 AIA New Jersey Honor Award for Historic Preservation.
