VITETTA, a DRG Company, developed an Integrated Master Plan for the 1928 Philadelphia Museum of Art to address preservation, modernization, and expansion. Extensive programming with 35 departments informed a decade-long strategy that included an innovative underground expansion beneath the historic plaza—boosting functional space without altering the iconic exterior—as well as new gallery structures like the Perelman Building and the Rodin Museum, plus a future art storage facility. Enhancements to the original Tiffany Studios grilles via high-performance interior retrofits yielded annual savings of approximately $690,000, while a comprehensive restoration of the exterior envelope preserved historic materials and detailing. The Rodin Museum’s interior was also restored to revive Paul Philippe Cret’s original design through refurbished finishes and upgraded systems, ensuring that the museum meets modern functional and energy-efficient building standards.
