×Pennsylvania State Police Headquarters
VITETTA, a DRG company, provided the architectural services for this State Police Headquarters building envelope rehabilitation, which also included elevator modernization. The scope of work consisted of a new building enclosure system to update the aesthetics of the existing building and resolve issues involving the deterioration of existing masonry, stone, glazing, and roofing systems due to age and prolonged weather exposure. Approximately 56,500 SF of new single-ply membrane (SPM) roofing on new roof insulation – plus new aluminum coping, fascia, and gravel stop – were provided for the replacement roofing portion of the project. The new façade system includes a thermally broken curtain wall system and a new metal panel siding rainscreen. The main entrance canopy and entrance door system were replaced to deliver a refreshed appearance and improved security.
Constructed in 1975, the original State Police Headquarters included three (3) hydraulic elevators manufactured by Dover Elevator; these elevators have a 3,000-pound capacity and 200 feet/ minute speed rating. Since the elevators are 40+ years of age, they have outlived their life expectancy; as such, a complete modernization is warranted. For the elevator modernization component of the scope of work, VITETTA teamed with Amicus Elevator Consultants LLC for their expertise in the analysis, design, troubleshooting, repair, and modernization of elevators of all types. The project scope included new hydraulic pumps, new piping to the hoistways, new pistons, new jack shafts, and new micro-processor controllers. In addition to replacing the elevator equipment, the interior of the elevator cabs will be rebuilt with new wall panels, ceiling panels, lighting, car fronts, and flooring. Supporting the elevator modernization work, the VITETTA Team designed a split-system cooling system for the elevator machine room and upgraded the elevator hoistways to comply with the applicable Building Code, including new lighting and smoke detectors in the elevator pit to be interfaced with the fire alarm system.
