Architectural Sr. Designer/Job Captain
DRG Architects | Somerset, NJ | Full-Time, On-Site

DRG Architects is looking for an Architectural Senior Designer/Job Captain. This full-time, on-site position will focus on the production of construction documents in Revit, from design development through construction administration. This position leads the day-to-day development of plans, elevations, sections, and details within Revit, and is responsible for building and maintaining accurate, well-coordinated Revit models that translate design intent into buildable, code-compliant construction documents.

Core responsibilities

  • Producing and coordinating full construction document sets in Revit.
  • Managing Revit models across disciplines and resolving clashes with consultant models; maintaining sheet sets, schedules, and annotation standards; and ensuring drawings meet firm standards, building codes, and client requirements.
  • Close collaboration with project managers and consultants, participation in internal design reviews, and hands-on troubleshooting of technical and coordination issues throughout project delivery.
  • Support project scheduling, attend client and team meetings as needed, and help mentor junior staff on Revit workflows and CD production standards.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience producing construction documents in Revit is required. If you do not have this experience, please do not apply.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Advanced proficiency in Revit for construction document production, including model management, sheet setup, schedules, families, and multi-discipline coordination.
  • Strong foundation in architecture and architectural design, with the ability to translate design concepts into buildable, Revit-modeled solutions.
Demonstrated ability to produce and coordinate construction drawings, including plans, sections, details, and specifications.
  • Ability in drawing and visual communication, including hand sketching and digital representation of design ideas.
  • Understanding of urban planning principles and how projects relate to site, community, and regulatory context.
  • Relevant experience in an architectural office, preferably with education, mixed-use, correctional, or government projects.
  • Working knowledge of complementary design and documentation tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite or similar) is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture or a closely related field; progress toward professional licensure is a plus.
  • Knowledge of building codes, materials, and sustainable design practices; familiarity with LEED or similar standards is beneficial.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and meet deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, and openness to feedback and mentoring in a team-based environment.
